Little Brother

Marcus (or w1n5t0n online) is a high school kid who is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is picked up by Homeland Security after a terrorist bombing in San Francisco. Little Brother is set in the not-so-distant future, so that fact has raised a few questions: Is this future, with constant surveillance, and government tracking unavoidable? Also, could this sort of government act happen here? In Canada? The US has the Patriot Act, but will that trend continue up here?
